I am Tim. My passion is in practising, teaching and researching couple and family therapy, disaster management and doing practice research.
My Passion
Couple & Family Therapy
Using Structural family therapy as my pillar, I incorporate different couple & family therapy traditions in working with couples and families experiencing addictions, divorce, imprisonment, poverty, and violence.
Disaster Management
Working closely with stakeholders across disciplines and sectors, I develop social worker’s competencies at various phases of disasters, with a focus on promoting disaster resilience and psychosocial wellbeing of individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Practice Research
Collaborating with a panel of distinguished social work scholars and practitioners, I am one of the pioneers in practice research. Contextualizing practice research in Asia to improve social service provision has been a focus.
My Projects
Couple & Family:
Couple & Family Therapy for Ex-Offenders & Their Families
Family support is one of the key desistance factors in rehabilitating ex-offenders. This training project with Singapore Aftercare Association and Singapore Anti-Narcotics focuses on engaging, assessing and serving ex-offenders and their families, based on practice evidence.
Disaster Management:
COPE
Children are one of most vulnerable groups affected and must be properly equipped with tools necessary to reduce risk. COPE is a series of children’s book that has been developed together with a creative team and stakeholders around the world to empower children.
Practice Research:
Post-Violence Multi-Family Group
This is a ground breaking group intervention for couples who have experienced and dealt with intimate partner violence, which is being developed with PAVe.
